Pain-free tennis anyone?

Pain-free tennis anyone?

I have a tennis addiction.

Over the past eight years, I have been playing tennis pretty regularly and it has now turned into an addiction. To me, the social and physical aspects are unrivaled and the sport is easily accessible being that there are so many public and private courts available. I am 61 years old, and hope to continue with this sport for the next 20 years - maybe 30 (I have seen it!).

I began playing tennis with a group of women who met on Sunday mornings. They were very patient with me -- and encouraged me to stick with it - and to work on a few basic skills. I listened to their advice, worked hard to improve - worked through physical aches and pains - and I am so glad that I did. Tennis has provided a social, physical and mental outlet that I didn’t know I needed. I’m addicted.

Along with joys of tennis - I also got the aches and pains. For years, I addressed the physical challenges with OTC meds (Aleve), stretching, and rest. A couple of years ago, I was taking two Alleve a day, and thought I was doing great. But, pain and inflammation were still breaking through.

I was sharing the woes of tennis with my cousin - and he said, “I don’t think it’s a good idea to take two Aleve a day for the rest of your life. That’s only masking the pain.” He asked me if I’d ever thought about CBD. I had never even heard of CBD. He suggested that I try it and gave me some CBD gummies to test. I was certainly hesitant at first, but I trusted my cousin. He assured me there was nothing illegal or harmful about the gummies and I was in search of a better solution to my tennis aches and pains. That night, I decided to try a gummy. After eating a gummy bear, I went to bed and quickly fell asleep.

The next morning I got out of bed quicker than usual. Something was different, I easily walked down the stairs and into the kitchen to make breakfast. Then I realized, shockingly my feet and knees were moving freely and without pain. Wow, I feel great. What did I do differently? Then I remembered - the gummy. Still being skeptical to place my relief solely on a little gummy bear I decided I would have to try it again. This time, before a tennis match.

I did some research on CBD gummies, got my cousin’s recommendations and placed my first order. A few days later, the gummies arrived and I was set to play in a finals tennis tournament over the weekend. Eager to play and to test if the gummies would once again work for me, I ate a gummy bear (30mg) before my first match. Similar to any other match, we started warming up and my joints were beginning to ache. We were hitting practice shots back and forth and I was missing more than I liked. It was time for the match to begin and after a fast serve from my opponent I responded with an even harder return and won the point. It was a shot I usually struggled with but hit with near perfection that day. As the match continued I was moving around the court pain free winning point after point. I felt fantastic. I couldn’t believe it, the gummy had worked once again. It took away the pain that had previously limited my mobility and play, and allowed me to focus on the game. Once the first set was finished (40 and over, Women’s Singles) in a 6-4 victory for me, my opponent congratulated me and complimented how well I was getting to balls. This match ultimately lasted for 4 hours, ending in a tie-breaker, and I’m happy to say, I won!

While traditional painkillers just simply cut off the pain message to your brain - CBD can actually add to your body’s natural pain relieving response system and help to amplify your body’s natural ability to heal.

CBD works with an endocannabinoid system (ECS). By stimulating the ECS, CBD helps your body reach a balanced state, reducing acute pain and inflammation. As a tennis player, the aspects I love most about CBD are the anti-inflammatory properties. The CBD effect on my knees - has been a literal game changer (pardon the pun).

Other things to love about CBD:

Want to try CBD?

I use a mix of products and generally dose about 30mg per day. I am 5’2” tall and 110 Lbs.

Tonic Vibe “Chill”  I use this in the AM as a general start to the day. I take a full dose which is about 27 mg. Great for providing overall relief from the inside out.

Mary’s Nutritional Patch I apply Mary’s patch in the AM on a day when I will play a tennis match. The patch is 10mg and goes on a veinous part of your body to more directly enter your bloodstream. Great for providing overall relief from the inside out.

Physician’s Grade CBD Cream I apply this cream on targeted areas before and after playing tennis. The cream is easy to apply and within 30 minutes I feel the effect. Great for relieving tennis elbow and IT band leg area.

Brothers Apothecary Teas and Honeys

I love the teas, honeys, hot cocoa, and other Brothers’ concoctions at the end of the day. Their products produce a relaxing feeling and definitely induce a deep sleep + dreamy.

Medterra Gummies Medterra Gummies come in different varieties to make them a good choice, morning, noon or night. Great for providing overall relief at various times of the day and night.

HUGS CBD Bath Bomb

If you are a bath taker, this beats epsom salts by a lot. Drop this into your bath, and let the CBD and other herbal ingredients do their work. Definitely makes your body feel great. Great for relieving tennis knees.
